Jessie Gac grew up in a Christian home, the daughter of members of Crossroads Bible Church. She accepted Christ at a very early age, and having grown up in a mission-minded church, felt a calling to be a missionary in China. As a youth, Jessie participated on mission trips to Mexico and was active in Young Life. While attending WheatonCollege, Jessie spent a semester teaching in Thailand and fell in love with Thai food. She still felt led to go to China, but doors were not opening. So Jessie accepted a teaching position at her former middle school and taught eighth grade math, which she loved. She also became a Young Life middle school leader.
After several years of teaching middle school math, Jessie received an invitation through connections she had made at WheatonCollege, to teach middle school math in Nairobi, Kenya. She had always had her mind set on China, but realized the Lord was providing her the opportunity to minister in Africa. Jessie accepted the position to teach at RosslynAcademy, a private school with children from missionary and diplomatic families attending there from various ethnic backgrounds. Jessie has taught math at RosslynAcademy for four years. In the Fall of 2011, she assumed the new role of Curriculum Coordinator in addition to teaching a math class.
Jessie has enjoyed learning about African culture, is trying to learn Swahili, lead prayer ministry, mentored students and organized a medical relief team from her local church. The team went into Nairobi’s slum district to provide dental and eye care besides vaccinations against diseases as an outreach. Jessie’s Mom was able to come and help take blood pressure readings and draw blood, a blessing to Jessie. Pray that this outreach effort will bear spiritual fruit. Also pray for Jessie as she adjusts her time schedule to the new job and teaches math.
